Description

One of the best and most natural zoos in California is Sequoia Park Zoo, founded in 1907. This previously operated as an animal rescue station, has grown into one of the most well-respected and visited zoos in all of California. This was not always the case as it was a fight to the finish for the survival of the Sequoia Park Zoo, and one that the zoo almost lost. Those days of woe and worry are gone as it is much too important of a job to allow animals who have been taken in for either medical or neglected and needs to be placed in foster zoos if the zoo went belly up. Thank goodness that will never happen as the Sequoia Park Zoo is now funded-fully by the United States government and has no fear of being shut-down and the gates locked for the final time, anymore.

Sequoia Redwood Park

Right alongside the Sequoia Park Zoo is the Sequoia Redwood Park, a nice combination in fact, a great one-two punch, and a vacationer’s delight of monumental proportions! This is what the entire Northern California experience is all about! There is nothing more exciting than to see children running and playing in the Sequoia Redwood Park play areas, and knowing that these sentinel trees, which surround the Park Service as ambassadors and great tidings of good will and freedom as they have been here since the beginning of mankind and the beginning of time itself. Nowhere else on the spectacular spinning rock of our planet we call earth, can these giant redwoods be found, nowhere anywhere in the world. That alone should make anyone want to get up off the couch get dressed, jump in the van and go get all the way to Northern California until you see a giant redwood tree and give that tree a big hug.

Sequoia Zoo

With the addition of the Sequoia’s Zoo and already beautiful and wonderful naturally occurring location, the State Park system of northern California, received a big shot in the arm. Back in the day, the city planners and the county commissioners and the general public, were at a loss with what was needed to complete the evolution of the Coastal Redwoods State and National Park system. Try as they may, they could not seem to come up with an answer until a chance encounter with some injured seabirds, led to the opening, officially, of the Sequoia Zoo in 1907. Since then, both animal life and human life have converged to meet in this actually well- run and efficiently operated Sequoia Zoo and Coastal Redwoods of California. The Sequoia Park Zoo and the Sequoia area in general, are two of the most entertaining and lively attractions a family can visit while on vacation in the coastal redwood region of northern California. Hands-down this is one of the best bets for a great time and will not break the bank, as well! A great day it is to grab some breakfast over at the Waffle House in Eureka, pack up the family and the rental car, and head over for a day at the Sequoia Park Zoo!
