Named for the beautiful and free-flowing Grizzly Creek, Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, is one of the most fantastically-arranged, natural wonders, in all of northern California! The giant redwoods that are found within and all-around Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, was the inspiration for the Georgia-Pacific Corporation founder, to make this area hands-off for all commercialized-activity. This paved the way towards one of the very first State Parks in the entire nation and started a firestorm of controversy, which ended with the conservation and preservation, of countless acres of pristine, giant redwood locations.

The park is located on Highway 36, which is a off the beaten path roadway that links Mad River, Wildwood, Forest Glen and Begum as it meanders through the redwood forests, from Highway 101 all the way to Interstate 5. So isolated and remote is this roadway, itís difficult to believe that until 1918, this route was the most utilized, between San Francisco and Eureka! Presently, there are many avenues and the modes of transportation, in which to access one of the greatest State Parks in all of California, Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park.

Whatís great about Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park is that with the 300 foot redwoods serving as giant sentinels and guardians of this wonderful location, there is an also great place to take a dip and really cool offer from a hot and sweaty trailblazing day! One of the best places to swim is right along any of the easy access points to the Van Duzen River. Grizzly Creek is also a great spot to take a dip in as many adventurers find this to be a welcome relief from the heated up days that the summer hiking can bring. The words hot and heated, sound strange in context to anything in northern California, yet after a few hours of backpacking on such trails as the Cheatham Grove Trail, it is easy for one to start to visualize a backstroke and the crystal-clear water of Grizzly Creek.
