Are People Buying?
At the present moment, the housing market is doing fairly well in Humboldt County; much better than the national average. People are attracted to the neighborhood charm and the unique area at which they are located. Quality properties with a lot of land and ocean front views are also experiencing tremendous popularity. Prices to these areas have been steadily dropping because sellers haven’t been able to compete with the poor market.

Considering Taxes
Even those with better-than-average financial situations are still having some trouble purchasing homes. Taxes have become a major consideration. For example, with an average monthly payment of $500 (1% of the total price) it can cripple you financially if you are not careful.

Why People Are Moving Here
People think the housing prices in Humboldt are very high. However, these same people don’t realize that this county is experiencing some of the lowest sales ever. It has been said that temperatures in the mainland are at a record high- the perfect reason to move towards the coast thus, making Humboldt more valuable. It should also be noted that city dwellers are also taking a lot of interest in this area; coastal waters, lush forest, and beautiful scenery is turning out to be an excellent location for retires with a lot of money.

The Real Estate Problem
Although real estate may be thriving, it is having some negative effects on the county. For one, there has been a steady decline in lodging and fishing. Humboldt County, unfortunately, is becoming more and more modernized; adventure companies are finding it difficult to attract business for kayaking and trial riding. Another problem is that the standard of living is rising. Those will little money (who are faithful to their roots) are being forced to sell and pack-up. This also negatively effects Humboldt.

To put simply, Humboldt County is doing very well in their real estate department. People are buying and putting a lot of money into the area. However, if this continues, Humboldt is slowly going to lose its natural beauty and majestic scenery.
