About Garberville

Garberville California is an unincorporated community in Humboldt County California and is located right along the south fork of the Eel River. The chance that the local and visiting angler has for catching the trophy trout ‘catch of the year’ can be had in the Eel River. This beautiful and free-flowing river is located only a stones throw away from the border line of Garberville California.

The first settlers of Garberville California arrived in the area in 1853. The first name for the town was “Dogtown” in reference to how exhausted the pioneers were after a day of building the wooden frames and the other millwork-construction type of carpentry the pioneering towns were known for. Being ‘dog-tired’ is something that will not be much of an issue for those travelling to this lovely and environmentally rich area. There are plenty of places to bed down for the night or just take a well-deserved midday nap as the morning was full of running from here and there taken in all that Garberville California has to offer.

Garberville California is the major town in the area known as the Mateel Region. This area is made up of sections of the Mattole and Eel Rivers, creating a semi-border issue with a neighboring county. This makes for a very unique perspective of what to do and see in the area and requires a sense of open-mindedness’ as well as understanding. The best way to see all that is northern California and the wine and cheese lifestyle is to book a week here. A weekend is great for seeing and experiencing one or two towns and a week is better for triple the amount of fun! Garberville California is a fine location for a family adventure and can be the start of a fantastic journey through all of northern California.

If the urge to see a current block-buster on the silver screen host while vacationing in Garberville California, the only movie-house in the entire area should be visited. The Garberville Theatre, in downtown Garberville, offers one screen so arguing about what to see is not an issue at all! While in downtown, why not schedule some time during the day to see some other great sights in Garberville? The town square offers a fine Farmers Market every Friday in both the fall and the summer and this can double as an organically designed lunch break. If any research needs to be completed, as in a working-vacation, then the place to go is the Garberville Public Library. This is a great resource for anything involving research and historically-accurate facts that have been earlier discovered on the journey of a lifetime to Garberville California.
