About Blue Lake

The City of Blue Lake California is located in the Mad Valley River region and is home to some of the most beautiful terrain ever created! The Mad River Valley is awash with blooming flowers in the spring time and of course the beautiful and picturesque Mad River. Fishing and hiking are two of the biggest attractions that bring hundreds of visitors to this lovely northern California hamlet with peaceful walks and romantically inclined outdoor adventures! For the nature-lover in the group, there is Blue Lake. This body of water is only one acre in size yet contains some of the best water-orientated activities around! A trip to northern California will not be complete without a visit to Blue Lake California.

The City of Blue Lake California has a rather small population of around 1,200 people and is about six square miles large yet this area is a well-traveled spot for thousands each and every year. The town has a bustling downtown with gift shops and the city offers a small cafe, bar and breakfast inn, with a brewery and spa that has overnighter accommodations as well. There is a well maintained park with modern children's play areas that can be a gateway to the best vacation ever! If the fisherman just wants to do more than fish there is always the Mad River Fish Hatchery which is two miles southwest of town. The hatchery gives guided tours and also is a great way to teach the younger anglers the beauty of nature and the fascinating life of a trout or salmon. It is nice to demonstrate to the children the wonders of life in this beautiful community. Any trip to Blue Lake California will be a wonderful destination for your entire family.

The City of Blue Lake is located in the Mad River Valley 300 miles north of San Francisco in Humboldt County, California. Due to the construction of a levee, the Mad River no longer floods the adjacent lowlands so the “Lake” in Blue Lake has been reduced to a seasonal pond of 1 acre or so in size. Blue Lake is an exceptional vacation destination for many individuals and families that are in search of a little twist in the normal and always average getaway excursion.

Though founded years earlier, the city itself was incorporated in 1910 and has a current estimated population of 1135 living in an area of around .6 square miles. The city has a small downtown business district as well as an industrial park, but most residents are employed outside of town, primarily in the nearby cities of Arcata and Eureka. The city does offer a small café, bar, bed & breakfast inn, brewery, and spa with overnight accommodations. In addition, there is a well-maintained park with modern children’s play area. So come on over to Blue Lake California and see what all the fuss is about!
